What should I include on my WordPress site?

I came up with a few descriptive adjectives in my last post to define the themes of what I hope to create with my WordPress site. To review, the words I chose were:

  • Appealing
  • Impressive
  • Available

In order to ensure my WordPress site will emit these three qualities to potential visitors I need to begin by strategizing what and how things should be included. When people go out to a club and see someone that causes them to take a second glance – that someone was appealing to the person. The same should be done for my website. It should be well-prepared, from top to bottom, such that the hierarchal organization flows seamlessly from one category to the next. It shouldn’t take long to get to viewing all the good features either.  What I put out on the landing page of my site should get people to take a second glance. It should be bold, unique, and shout a unique quality about myself. My site will also need to expose my eccentricities to visitors. Unique pictures and videos of things I have done will need to be featured in order to draw people in.

Keeping them on the site is just as important as making sure the site is at first appealing. From the landing page of my site, there needs to be ample ways for viewers to feel easily connected to other unique aspects of the site. I’m expecting to have:

  • a well-developed blog discussing a wide variety of topics from web development to psychology
    • I want to showcase my enthusiasm and curiosity to learn more than what is expected of me.
  • a store with various products or services I can provide to others including:
    • class scheduling for certifications
    • one-to-one tutoring sessions
    • consulting opportunities and for what
  • a single scrolling summative autobiography of all neat things of done in life connected to individual pages where I talk in depth about those experiences
    • there are aspects to this that may be more customizable by using CSS code and I will need to look more into this.
  • a library of pics, literature, and videos of projects I’ve worked on
  • a comprehensive analysis of url titles and descriptions for search engine optimization
  • links to other websites that I follow or help me develop
  • icon links to my social media accounts
    • it is also possible for me to sync my social media accounts with new blog posts that I have been working on. an automated system could be set up so that my website is the sole placeholder for all activity on my social media accounts.
  • VISUALs
    • cannot emphasize visuals enough – people love visual explanations – the right pictures can oftentimes do more than what words can.

If viewers are that impressed by what I have developed on my site, then they will want a way to reach out to me. This is my chance to be even more impressive. I can automate a response to the people who contact me via the website and send it to there specific email if I categorize the forms that they will be using. Making myself accessible via Skype, Google, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Flickr, Gather, and many others will ensure visitors have at least one way of getting a hold of me.

I think for now the biggest challenge will be to develop functions to make me and my site “Impressive.” Making WordPress sites that are appealing and available tends to be an out-of-the-box feature of this content management system. There is, however, a huge responsibility given to the owner to creatively design, organize, and format the resources and data of the site.

In my next blog post I will focus on the specific features or information to be displayed on my site. I will also try to create a organizational map and include it into the post. Mapping out the organization of a WordPress site is a crucial first step for ensuring it’s success later on.
